The annual AIA Houston Design Awards program began in 1956 to recognize design excellence by Houston architects or projects constructed in the Houston area. The 53rd AIA Houston Design Awards recognize outstanding projects in architecture, residential architecture, interiors, restoration/renovation, urban design, and in unbuilt projects. Criteria used by the jury include quality of design, resolution of the program idea, sustainable responsibility, innovation, thoughtfulness and technique.
